VetFoam™ – for Veterinarians

VetFoam™ is an injectable scaffold engineered for stimulating tissue growth. It is a minimally invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of canine urinary incontinence. Being a bulker and a scaffold, it offers the unique added value of tissue remodelling.  VetFoam™ is composed of gelatin and a biological crosslinker. Once the powdered gelatin is mixed with saline, it forms a liquid injectable foam. VetFoam™ biodegrades within 3 months leaving behind a remodelled urethra with regained ability to maintain continence. As such, very prolonged or even lifetime continence may be achieved. VetFoam™ offers high rate of success with long lasting continence and minimal risk of adverse effects.

In a recent veterinary clinical study, VetFoam™ treatment demonstrated 87% success rate after the first procedure with mean continence duration of 11.1 months.

Frequently asked questions – Veterinarians

Why should I treat my patient with VetFoam™?

VetFoam™ is a safe and effective novel agent, for the management of urinary incontinence in female dogs. In an independent study conducted by Israel’s leading veterinary hospital, it showed high success rates (87%) following the first procedure with a mean continence duration of 11.1 months. It is a minimally invasive treatment with minimal risk of side effects.

Does one treatment of VetFoam™ guarantee long term continence?

VetFoam shows high success rates (87%) in the management of urinary incontinence following the first procedure. Treatment efficiency and continence longevity can vary between canine patients. In some cases, a single treatment lasted 3 years, in others repetitive treatments were required.

Is my patient too old / too young to get the VetFoam™ treatment?

VetFoam™ treatment is not age dependent.

Is VetFoam™ safe for use?

VetFoam™ is a biomaterial made of natural materials. The product is sterile and is applied by trained personnel. It’s safety for use in the treatment of urinary incontinence in female dogs was confirmed in a veterinary clinical study.

Is VetFoam™ a bulking agent? How does it work?

VetFoam™ has a bulking effect initially, but the main efficacy stems from an additive value of tissue remodeling. It is a scaffold with 3D structure which starts as flow-able foam and solidifies within the target tissue, transforming into a functional tissue graft. Once set in stable physical shape (within few minutes), VetFoam™ keeps its volume acting similarly to bulking agents. With time, the matrix biologically degrades simultaneously with natural buildup of new tissue that supports the therapeutic effect over time.

I would like to start treating canine patients with VetFoam™. What should I do?

VetFoam™ administration is under endoscopic guidance into the urethral sub-mucosa and can be done only by trained personnel. If you have prior experience with injection of bulking agents, you can start without training. In case you don’t have the required skills, please contact us through our website.

Is VetFoam™ efficient in treating all urinary incontinence medical conditions?

VetFoam™ is known to be a safe and effective treatment for the management of urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence (USMI).

How do I use the VetFoam™?

Only certified Veterinarians can apply the treatment. See IFU (information for use) document attached to the VetFoam™ package. In case you don’t have the IFU document, contact us through our website.
